Is Khata required for registration?

A Khata certificate is not always required for the registration of a property in India. However, in some states and municipalities it is mandatory to have a Khata certificate to register a property.

In Karnataka state, for example, it is mandatory to have a Khata certificate to register a property and the property registration process cannot be completed without a Khata certificate. Similarly, in some other states like Bihar, Maharashtra, Telangana, etc also it is mandatory to have a Khata certificate for the registration of a property.

In other states, however, a Khata certificate is not mandatory for the registration of a property. In those cases, other documents such as the property’s sale deed, possession certificate, etc. may be used to register a property.

It is important to check with the local registrar office or the municipal corporation to understand the specific requirements for the registration of a property in your area.
